Desert Survivors
A desert conservation group based out of Oakland, California. Membership is about $20 a year; includes a quarterly newsletter. They sponsor dozens of outings each year; a great way to get into the desert.

Desert Report
A excellent quarterly publication of news of the desert from the Sierra Club California/Nevada Desert Committee. Available online in Acrobat (PDF) format.

Founded in 1892, The Sierra Club’s grassroots advocacy has made it America’s most influential environmental organization.

The Nature Conservancy
Working to preserve plants, animals and natural communities that represent the diversity of life on Earth by protecting the lands and waters they need to survive.

Greenbelt Alliance
The San Francisco Bay Area’s citizen land conservation and urban planning organization.

Earth Alliance Institute
Founded in 1982 by veteran environmentalist David Brower, Earth Island Institute provides organizational support in developing projects for the conservation, preservation, and restoration of the global environment.
